First up is the "Stretching Portrait" bookmark inspired by Disney's Haunted Mansion--my favorite attraction!
The template can be printed here.  Adult assistance may be necessary as cutting is involved.  Scissors should be fine, no craft knives needed.  You will also need glue.

Next, we have a pair slightly more ambitious bookmarks, featuring everyone's favorite summer-vacationers Phineas and Ferb!   Adult assistance is necessary with these.  Supplies include, printed template, craft sticks, hot glue gun, construction paper, craft paint & brush, black marker, glue stick, and ModPodge (white glue mixed with water should work fine as an alternative).

Our last bookmark is inspired by one of my all-time favorites Disney's Tangled.  Little princesses everywhere will be thrilled to mark their place with Rapunzel's beautiful braid! You will need the printable, a craft knife, yellow/gold embroidery thread, and tape.  Adult assistance is necessary as a craft knife will be used.  This is a very simple project certain to lead to hours of reading--one of Rapunzel's many past times!

Each image will link you directly to the project page for that bookmark.  Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong!  Also, there are many other bookmark ideas available on DisneyFamily.com.  I've only shared a few of my favorites.  Enjoy!

Recipe & Review: Dole Whip

If you are a fruit lover like me, there is nothing quite as satisfying as indulging in a cold, creamy Dole Whip while visiting Adventureland on either coast!  The "Float" is always a classic; however, my personal favorite is the Dole Whip Pineapple-Vanilla swirl.  My favorite Dole Whip memory was eating it in front of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Disneyland watching the pre-show with my new husband...  We had a magical day on our first and only trip to Disneyland, on our way back from Hawaii!

Recently I discovered a recipe online for a homemade Dole Whip.  I couldn't wait to try it!  It is important to note that this recipe does contain dairy, unlike the theme park counterpart.

    You will need:

  • 2- 20 oz cans Dole crushed pineapple with juice
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, whipped

   Directions:
  1. Drain pineapple; reserve 2 tablespoons juice. Set aside.
  2. Place pineapple, lemon juice, lime juice, sugar and reserved pineapple juice in blender or food processor container; cover and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour into two 1-quart freezer zipped bags and store bags flat in freezer. Freeze 1-1/2 hours or until slushy.
  4. Stir pineapple slush gently into whipped cream until slightly blended, in large bowl. Return to freezer until completely frozen, about 1 hour and serve.
  Yields: 4 servings

  Review:

We tried this on Wednesday night.  The preparation is very simple.  After 1 hour of freezing the finished product, it was still not at all frozen and tasted like Ambrosia.  Unfortunately, it was a little late at that time, so we left it until yesterday.  Well...it was frozen!  (I recommend checking at an hour and then each half hour after that.) We were able to let it sit on the counter for a bit to soften it and then dished it into a bowl with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.  It tasted good, but was very icy, as expected due to the fruit juice.  It was not the exact same taste and nowhere near the texture of a Dole Whip, but we enjoyed it anyway.  We still have a lot left, so I will probably try a float today with pineapple juice and see how that compares.

It is important to note that if you have an ice cream maker, soft-serve machine, or are fairly ambitious, you can get the actual mix shipped in from Hawaii.

Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland has its world premiere in England at London's Leicester Square Theatre. It will be released in the U.S. two days later. Based on Lewis Carroll's books Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, it is the thirteenth animated feature in the Disney animated features canon. The film will be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. Attending the premiere is Walt Disney and Kathryn Beaumont, dressed as Alice.

"I remember arriving at the theatre and being helped from the vehicle by the
Mad Hatter. Yes, Walt was there, and it was wonderful having pictures taken with him.
He looked so handsome in his tuxedo!" -Kathryn Beaumont
